9 Signs You’re Not Listening to Your Intuition

I used to think intuition was just a word thrown around in self-help books and Instagram reels.

Something vague.

Something mystical.

Something that maybe applied to psychics, but definitely not to me.

But over time, I began to notice something… strange.

Every time I ignored that soft voice inside, whether it was about a friendship that suddenly felt off, or a decision I was rushing into, I paid for it.

Not in an obvious crash-and-burn way.

But in the slow, subtle, something’s not right kind of way. Like getting on a train you know is going in the wrong direction but pretending you’re too busy to get off.

There is a scientific reason as to why our gut seems off when we’re not feeling great about something. The stomach and the sub-conscious part of our brain is linked via a nerve. When our sub-conscious picks up on subtle red flags, it tries to tell us something is wrong by tugging on that nerve, that’s why our gut feels off.

When I finally started honoring my intuition, my life didn’t suddenly become perfect.

But it became mine.

My choices felt rooted.

I started feeling less anxious and more aligned. I realized, intuition isn’t loud. It doesn’t scream.

It whispers.

And when we don’t listen, life has a way of getting loud in other ways.

So here are 9 signs you might be tuning out your intuition—even if you don’t realize it.

Let’s help you come home to that quiet voice again.

1. You Keep Asking Everyone Else What You Should Do

If you’re constantly polling your friends, stalking Reddit threads, or DMing your therapist after every minor decision, this might be a sign.

It’s not that asking for advice is wrong.

But when it becomes your default, you may be outsourcing wisdom that’s already inside you.

Example: You’re thinking about quitting your job. You’ve read 12 blog posts, watched 4 YouTube videos, and asked 3 friends. But deep down, you already know what you want to do. You’re just afraid of trusting yourself.

Try this: Sit quietly with a guided journal and write down what you want before asking anyone else.

2. You Constantly Feel Uneasy in “Good” Situations

Ever had that nagging discomfort even when everything looks perfect on paper?

That’s your intuition gently tugging at your sleeve. When we ignore it, we stay in jobs, relationships, or lifestyles that drain us—just because they should make us happy.

Example: You’re dating someone who’s great. Kind. Thoughtful. But something feels off. You’re not lit up around them. You dismiss it as “cold feet.” But your gut is waving a quiet flag.

Try this: Read “The Gift of Fear” by Gavin de Becker, a powerful book about how intuition protects us, even in subtle emotional spaces.

3. You Often Say “I Knew I Should’ve…”

We’ve all said it.

That feeling after ignoring your gut and watching things play out exactly how your intuition predicted. If this is happening often, it’s not bad luck.

It’s a pattern and it means your intuition is working, but you’re not letting it lead.

Example: You ignore the urge to double-check a work email and later find a typo. Or you feel like you shouldn’t go out tonight and end up overwhelmed or sick.

4. You Overthink Simple Decisions

Intuition makes you feel clear.

Overthinking makes you feel stuck.

If you’re spinning in mental circles about what to wear, what to eat, or which brand of oat milk to buy, chances are you’re not tapping into that deeper knowing that says, this one feels right.

Example: You agonize over buying a course, even though you were excited at first. You talk yourself out of it with logic, only to regret it later.

5. You Stay in Situations That Drain You

When your energy keeps dipping around certain people, places, or tasks, your intuition is probably screaming “This is not for us anymore!”

But you stay, out of guilt, loyalty, or habit.

Over time, you forget what being lit up even feels like.

Example: You say yes to lunch with a friend who drains you. You dread it the whole time and feel exhausted after. But you keep saying yes—because “she needs me.”

Try this: Read “Set Boundaries, Find Peace” by Nedra Glover Tawwab—it helps you trust yourself enough to say no without guilt.

6. You Always Need “Proof” Before Taking Action

Intuition rarely comes with receipts.

It just feels right—or wrong. If you find yourself needing external validation or evidence before every move, you might be silencing your inner knowing in favor of logic and data.

Example: You want to move cities. Everything in your body says yes. But you delay it for months because the job market data isn’t “perfect.”

Try this: Keep a voice recorder on hand and record your intuitive nudges before overanalyzing them.

7. You’ve Lost Touch with Your Body’s Signals

Your body is your intuition.

A tight chest, a flutter in the belly, a deep calm—these are messages. But when we’re disconnected (thanks to chronic stress, caffeine, phones, etc.), we don’t hear them. We override them with noise.

Example: You ignore the tension in your shoulders that spikes every time you’re on a Zoom call with your boss. Your body is trying to tell you something about this environment.

Try this: Practice daily body scans. Maybe you can lie down with a weighted blanket to help ground yourself.

8. You Can’t Remember the Last Time You Were Still

Stillness is where intuition lives. If your days are crammed with noise—scrolling, multitasking, background music, endless podcasts—you’re likely drowning out your inner voice. Intuition whispers. And it needs quiet.

Example: You can’t sit for even five minutes without checking your phone. Every second is filled with stimulation. You never get quiet enough to feel anything.

Try this: Light a scented candle, turn everything off, and just sit for 3–5 minutes a day. No agenda. Just you and silence.

9. You Ignore That “Something’s Off” Feeling

This one is big. If you get that feeling—tight stomach, strange energy, something-can’t-be-explained—but brush it off as silly, you’re not listening. Intuition isn’t always logical. But it’s always worth respecting.

Example: You’re about to sign a contract. Everything looks great, but your gut screams wait. You ignore it. Months later, you realize the fine print cost you thousands.

Try this: Before any big decision, do a 1-minute breathwork pause with your essential oil roller—use it to center your body and ask, “Does this feel safe?”

Final Thoughts

Your intuition isn’t broken. It’s just buried. Under all the noise, the overthinking, the people-pleasing, and the external noise, it’s still there. Waiting patiently.

Listening to your intuition doesn’t mean you’ll never make mistakes. It means you’ll start making decisions that feel like you. And there’s nothing more powerful than that.

Start small. Build trust. The more you listen, the louder it gets.

You already know what to do. You always have.
