I absolutely love cozy books and it doesn’t matter what season it is, I can curl up with a witch-themed book anyday!
I’m going to focus on cozy witch books for this post because I already wrote the best 21 books that feature witches in this post.
A few of them are well-known but I’ve intentionally mentioned books that aren’t too popular or mainstream because I love finding gold nuggets among books and showcasing authors that are just getting their foot into the literary world.
So, if you’re looking for light, cozy reads, I got you!

1. Dark, Witch & Creamy by H.Y. Hanna
If your dream evening involves a rainy English village, a cozy café, a mischievous cat curled up nearby, and a mystery waiting to be solved, this book is going to steal your heart.
The story follows Caitlyn Le Fey, a witch who returns to her charming hometown only to find herself tangled up in magical mysteries, family secrets, and plenty of unexpected twists.
What makes this series so addictive is the atmosphere. The village feels like somewhere you’d genuinely want to live. The bakeries smell warm, the locals are wonderfully quirky, and every chapter feels like you’re wandering through cobblestone streets with a cup of tea in your hand.
There’s magic woven throughout the story, but it’s never overwhelming. Instead, it feels cozy and comforting, like a little spark of enchantment hiding inside everyday life. If you’re looking for a witchy book that feels like a Hallmark movie mixed with practical magic and mystery, start here.
2. The House Witch by Delemhach
Most fantasy books focus on battles, powerful magic, and saving the world. The House Witch does something completely different, and honestly, that’s exactly why so many readers fall in love with it.
The story follows Finlay Ashowan, a magical cook whose greatest power isn’t fighting dragons or casting dramatic spells.
His magic revolves around creating comfort, warmth, and home. He cooks incredible meals, solves problems with kindness, and somehow manages to charm almost everyone he meets.
The descriptions of food alone will make you seriously hungry.
There are cozy kitchens, friendships that develop naturally, sweet romance, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. This is one of those rare books that reminds you that magic doesn’t always have to be dramatic. Sometimes magic is simply making people feel safe, cared for, and loved.
3. Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper
If autumn could be turned into a novel, it would probably look a lot like Payback’s a Witch.
The story takes place in the magical town of Thistle Grove, where powerful witch families have lived for generations.
Emmy Harlow returns home after years away, hoping for a quiet visit, but quickly finds herself pulled into old rivalries, complicated relationships, and a plan for revenge against a very charming ex-boyfriend.
One of the things I love most about this book is the setting. The town feels SO alive.
There are magical competitions, family traditions, cozy cafés, and enough witchy atmosphere to make you want to move there immediately.
The romance is wonderful, the friendships feel genuine, and the magic blends seamlessly into everyday life. It’s the perfect book to read during sweater weather with a candle burning nearby.
4. Weyward by Emilia Hart
Weyward is very different from the other books on this list.
It’s darker I admit, a little more emotional, and much more powerful than your typical cozy fantasy.
But it absolutely deserves a spot here because of how beautifully it explores feminine power, intuition, and the connection between women and nature.
The story follows three women living centuries apart, all connected through a mysterious family legacy. As their stories unfold, you begin to see how deeply their lives are intertwined through magic, resilience, and survival.
The writing is absolutely stunning.
Nature almost becomes a character itself, with birds, flowers, insects, and wild landscapes woven throughout every chapter. If you’ve read Where the Crawdads Sing, you’ll understand what I mean.
This isn’t the kind of book you rush through and that’s what I love! It’s the kind you slowly savor while highlighting favorite passages. By the time you finish, you’ll probably want to take a long walk outside and pay closer attention to the natural world around you.
5. Impractical Magic by Iris Beaglehole
If you’ve ever wished you could move to a quirky little town where everyone knows each other, magic is part of everyday life, and mysteries seem to appear as regularly as the morning coffee, Impractical Magic is exactly the kind of book you’ll want on your shelf.
As the ninth book in the Myrtlewood Mysteries series, this story returns readers to the wonderfully charming town of Myrtlewood, a place filled with witches, magical mishaps, eccentric residents, and enough small-town drama to keep things interesting. Even after several books, Myrtlewood still manages to feel like a place you’d genuinely want to visit. It’s cozy, welcoming, and just a little bit chaotic in the best possible way.
The characters are another reason readers keep coming back. By this point in the series, many of them feel like old friends. Their relationships, friendships, and ongoing adventures create a comforting sense of community that makes Myrtlewood so enjoyable to revisit. Even when there’s a mystery to solve, the overall tone remains light, cozy, and incredibly easy to sink into.
This is the perfect book for readers who love cozy witch mysteries, Hallmark-style small-town settings, magical communities, and stories that feel like spending a weekend with friends. Curl up with a blanket, make yourself a hot drink, and prepare to lose yourself in Myrtlewood for a few hours. It feels like coming home.
6. Garden Spells: A Novel (Waverly Family) by Sarah Addison Allen
This book feels like sunshine, flower gardens, homemade lemonade, and slow summer afternoons.
The Waverley family has always been a little unusual. Their garden produces magical plants, family members possess unique gifts, and strange things seem to happen around them.
When two sisters are unexpectedly reunited, old wounds begin to heal and new possibilities start to bloom.
The magic in this book isn’t flashy and I love these kind of books.
It’s subtle, whimsical, and deeply tied to everyday life. That’s what makes it feel so special. You finish chapters wanting to plant flowers, bake something from scratch, or spend time in your garden. It’s one of the coziest magical realism novels you’ll ever read.
7. In the Company of Witches (An Evenfall Witches B&B Mystery) by Auralee Wallace

If you love cozy mysteries, magical small towns, family secrets, and autumn-in-a-book energy, this one is an absolute delight.
The story follows Brynn Warren, a witch who helps run her family’s charming bed and breakfast in the town of Evenfall. Life is already busy enough managing guests, navigating family expectations, and trying to keep the town’s magical secrets under wraps. But when a murder occurs and people Brynn cares about become suspects, she finds herself pulled into a mystery that threatens the peaceful life she’s built.
What I loved most about this book is the setting. The Warren family’s bed and breakfast feels exactly like somewhere you’d want to stay for a long weekend. There are cozy rooms, home-cooked meals, quirky guests, magical relatives, and that wonderful small-town atmosphere where everyone seems to know everyone else’s business. The magic blends naturally into daily life, which makes the story feel comforting rather than overwhelming.
The family relationships are also one of the highlights. Brynn is surrounded by generations of witches, each with their own personalities, strengths, and opinions. Their interactions feel warm, realistic, and often very funny. It reminded me a little of the family dynamics in Practical Magic, where magic is simply part of everyday life rather than the center of every conversation.
The mystery itself keeps the pages turning, but honestly, I stayed for the atmosphere. This is the kind of book that makes you want to visit a small town during peak autumn, drink too much tea, bake something cinnamon-flavored, and spend an entire rainy weekend reading under a blanket.
If your perfect witchy book includes cozy inns, magical families, charming towns, and just enough mystery to keep things interesting, In the Company of Witches deserves a spot on your bookshelf. It feels like a Hallmark movie, a cozy mystery, and a witchy fantasy all rolled into one magical package.
8. The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
Sometimes you want a deeply emotional story. Other times you just want a fun, witchy romance that makes you laugh and keeps you turning pages until midnight. That’s exactly what The Ex Hex delivers.
Years after a painful breakup, witch Vivienne Jones jokingly places a curse on her ex-boyfriend while drinking too much wine. She never expects it to actually work. Unfortunately, when he returns to town years later, magical chaos starts breaking loose everywhere.
This book is charming from beginning to end. The small-town setting is adorable, the magical mishaps are hilarious, and the romance is genuinely enjoyable. There are haunted toys, cursed situations, family drama, and plenty of cozy witchy vibes throughout. It’s the perfect book to read during October with a candle burning nearby and a hot drink in hand.
If you’re new to witchy fiction, this is a great place to start because it’s lighthearted, entertaining, and easy to get lost in.
9. Muffins & Magic by Polly Holmes
I love stories where magic and baking exist side by side, and Muffins and Magic absolutely embraces that cozy formula.
The story combines small-town charm, magical discoveries, friendships, and enough baked goods to make you hungry while reading. The pacing is gentle, the characters are lovable, and the atmosphere feels warm from the very first chapter.
This is the kind of book you reach for when life feels stressful and you want something comforting. You get to spend time with characters you genuinely enjoy while exploring a magical world that feels surprisingly inviting.
I think readers who love Gilmore Girls, Hallmark movies, cozy mysteries, and cottagecore aesthetics will especially enjoy this one. It feels like stepping into a magical bakery where everyone knows your name and the muffins are always fresh out of the oven.
10. The Accidental Coven: A Cozy Witchy Fantasy Adventure
Jinx has been alone ever since the age of six—when her mother disappeared, leaving her with an absentee guardian who dropped her off at boarding school, rarely to be seen again. But twenty years later, just when she’s succeeding as an interior designer for the wealthy and beige-obsessed, she receives a mysterious legacy, the key to a house in the small tourist town of Pirate’s Cove, and a sudden, nausea-inducing infusion of magic power from the ghost of her Great-Aunt Ida.
And her life goes to Hecate in a handbasket.
Especially when she gets to Pirate’s Cove and learns that two other witches have claims on the estate. But when a ritual gone wrong accidentally imbues the three of them with the former coven’s magic, they learn they’ve also inherited its enemies, as well as the responsibility for fixing its past mistakes—some of which Jinx’s own mother was accused of making.
Under attack from vampiric Fae who want to steal their magic, and aided by a hot mysterious Fae bounty hunter, a magical maintenance crew that moonlights singing sea shanties in tourist bars, and an ancient sea captain who’s more than he seems, Jinx, Melody and Gigi have to band together to figure out the truth of the past and defeat their enemies—and learn that magic combined with friendship and courage is unstoppable.
11. The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst
I genuinely think this book is going to become a cozy fantasy classic.
The story follows Kiela, a librarian who flees her collapsing city and returns to a quiet island where she opens a secret spell shop. Along the way, she finds friendship, community, and a chance to rebuild her life in ways she never expected.
Everything about this book feels magical.
There are enchanted books, seaside cottages, beautiful gardens, warm baked goods, found family, and even a lovable talking plant companion. The setting feels like something straight out of a Studio Ghibli movie. You can practically smell the ocean air and hear the waves crashing nearby while you read.
If you’re looking for the ultimate comfort read, this might honestly be it.
