I love Halloween!
Halloween costumes are supposed to be fun, but finding cute plus size costume inspiration can get frustrating pretty fast.
So many lists seem to recycle the same few ideas, or the outfits are more “Halloween T-shirt with cat ears” than an actual look you’d get excited about wearing.
I wanted this list to feel different. I went looking for plus size Halloween costumes that are genuinely pretty, creative, a little dramatic, and most importantly, actually feel like an outfit. Think gorgeous corsets, whimsical fairy looks, recognizable characters, princess costumes, witchy outfits, and those really aesthetic costumes that make you want to immediately start planning the hair and makeup too.
And you definitely don’t need to hide your body or stick to some imaginary list of costumes that are supposed to be “flattering” for plus size women.
So, I’ve put together 25 aesthetic Halloween costumes for plus size women with a mix of cute, sexy, spooky, feminine and completely over-the-top ideas. Some are easy enough to recreate with pieces you might already own, while others are the kind of costumes you start planning weeks ahead because you know the final look is going to be worth it.
1. The Matchmaker from Mulan
This Matchmaker costume from Mulan is such a fun choice because you almost never see anyone dress as her! The layered purple outfit with the bright red and turquoise details looks amazing, but honestly, the makeup is what really sells it. Go heavy on the pink blush, purple and blue eyeshadow, tiny red lips and that unmistakable updo. It’s funny, colorful and perfect if you want a Disney Halloween costume that’s a little more unexpected.
2. Miss Piggy
This Miss Piggy costume is honestly so glamorous. The sparkly silver dress, long blonde curls, purple gloves and pearls already feel very Miss Piggy, and then the little pig ears and nose pull the whole thing together. I love that it’s recognizable without needing a complicated costume, and you could easily recreate this with a silver sequin dress you already love and a few inexpensive accessories.

Dorothy is such a cute Halloween costume, especially if you want something feminine and instantly recognizable. The blue gingham dress with the little white puff sleeves is adorable, and the red ribbons in the pigtails are such a sweet detail. Add some red shoes and a little basket and you’ve basically got the entire look. You could even carry a tiny stuffed Toto around all night.
4. Ursula
If you want to go a little more dramatic, Ursula is SUCH a good one. I love the black and purple dress, the long white hair and that huge gold crown. This is also one of those costumes where you can really have fun with the makeup—purple eyeshadow, a deep red or burgundy lip and plenty of shimmer would look amazing. Add a shell necklace and you’re done.
5. Pink Cowgirl
Okay, this one is ridiculously cute. A hot pink cowgirl costume is perfect if you want something that feels more like a really fun Halloween outfit than a traditional costume. The pink cowboy hat, fringe sleeves and matching bottoms make the whole look feel so put together. Add cowboy boots, big earrings and lots of pink makeup if you really want to commit to it.
6. Kim Possible
This is probably one of the easiest costumes on the list to recreate yourself. You really only need olive green cargo pants, a fitted black top, black gloves and some red hair—or a red wig if you want the full Kim Possible look. It’s comfortable, recognizable and still looks genuinely cute, which is basically the Halloween costume trifecta.
7. Marge Simpson
I LOVE when someone takes a really simple character and turns it into an actual outfit. For Marge Simpson, grab a fitted green dress, red heels and a chunky red necklace, then let that enormous blue hair do all the work. You could use a blue wig, temporary hair color or even get creative with your natural hair. It’s funny, nostalgic and surprisingly easy to recreate.
8. Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice
I LOVE this one for a couples costume, but it works perfectly on its own too. The bright red lace dress and dramatic veil immediately give you that iconic Lydia Deetz wedding look from Beetlejuice. You can go all out with layers of red lace and a huge veil, or keep the dress fairly simple and let the color do most of the work. Add dark eye makeup, long black hair and a little bouquet of dark flowers to finish it off.

One of my favorite villians honestly.
Mostly because you can dress up however you want and as long as you have the signature black and white hair and some red accents, you can make this work!
10. Cher Horowitz from Clueless
You really can’t go wrong with Cher for Halloween. The yellow plaid set is instantly recognizable, super cute, and honestly looks like an outfit you could wear again after Halloween. Pair a yellow plaid blazer and matching skirt with a simple white top, knee-high socks or heels, and a tiny handbag. Bonus points if you can convince a friend to dress as Dionne!
11. Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls
This is such an adorable costume if you want something comfortable and easy to put together. Mabel is basically made for cozy Halloween outfits because all you really need is a colorful sweater, a skirt, headband, white socks and Mary Janes. The shooting-star sweater makes the character much easier to recognize, and you could even carry a little stuffed Waddles around with you.
12. Patty and Selma from The Simpsons
Okay, this is SUCH a good best-friend costume. Patty and Selma are hilarious, recognizable and surprisingly easy to recreate. Purple wigs and yellow face paint do most of the heavy lifting, then add simple pink or blue outfits, chunky necklaces and their permanently unimpressed expressions. If you’re going to a Halloween party with your sister or best friend, this would be so much fun.
13. Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2
I would absolutely choose the Shrek 2 Fairy Godmother over a regular fairy costume. She’s glamorous, dramatic and just a tiny bit terrifying, which is exactly the energy Halloween needs. A sparkly red gown, tiny wings, red glasses and a towering blue updo will get the look across instantly. Don’t forget a wand because obviously you need something to dramatically point at people all night.
14. Patrick Star
This Patrick costume is chaotic in the best possible way. The bright pink hair and makeup paired with those unmistakable lime green shorts makes it immediately recognizable, while the fishnets and chunky black boots give the whole thing a really fun alternative twist. 15. Princess Fiona from Shrek
Plus-size Fiona costumes are honestly PERFECT because you can make this one as simple or elaborate as you want. Start with a green medieval-style dress, add ogre ears and a little tiara, then use green body or face paint to really commit to the look. The reddish curls are such a cute finishing touch too. And yes, this becomes even better if you can convince someone else to come as Shrek.

I adore costumes like this because they’re instantly recognizable without being uncomfortable to wear all night. For Russell, grab a yellow or beige shirt, khaki shorts, an orange neckerchief and a cap, then make your own Wilderness Explorer sash covered in little badges. High-top sneakers and white socks finish it off. Carrying a little stuffed Dug would make this even cuter.
Tinkerbell
This is a gorgeous way to do Tinker Bell without trying to copy the animated outfit exactly. The metallic green corset and petal-style mini skirt give it a slightly more grown-up party look, while the huge translucent wings and wand make the character unmistakable. 19. Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland
This Cheshire Cat costume is ridiculously fun. The pink and purple stripes make the character recognizable immediately, but the corset, furry boots, ears and huge striped tail make it feel much more like a full Halloween look. Daphne is another really easy character to recreate with regular clothes. A fitted purple dress, lavender accessories, green neck scarf and purple headband are basically all you need. If you already have red or auburn hair, even better, but a wig works perfectly too. If your Halloween style leans a little more goth, Mavis is such an easy choice. Start with a simple black mini dress, add black-and-red striped tights, black boots and long mesh gloves. The short black bob and vampire fangs really pull everything together. You could also add some dark lipstick and dramatic eyeliner, but you really don’t need much — the striped tights make this costume instantly recognizable
Tomato Pin Cushion
Okay, this might be one of the most creative costumes on the whole list. Instead of dressing as another movie or cartoon character, she’s literally a tomato pin cushion! The puffy red dress creates the round pin-cushion shape, while the green collar looks like the leaves on top of a tomato. The giant pins sticking out of the dress are what really sell it. It’s weird, adorable and exactly the kind of Halloween costume that makes people stop and ask how you came up with it.

I LOVE this interpretation of Mr. Krabs. The light blue collared shirt, denim shorts and black belt copy his classic outfit, while the red tights, gloves and giant claws turn it into an actual costume. The tall eye stalks are hilarious and make the character obvious immediately. This would also be pretty easy to DIY with clothes you already own and some cardboard for the claws and eyes. You need an orange top, dark red or brown skirt, orange knee-high socks and her signature black glasses. A short brown wig helps if your hair is completely different, but honestly the color combination and glasses already make the character pretty obvious. This is such a good choice if you want something cute, comfortable and easy.
25. Female Satyr Costume
This is such a cool choice if you want a fantasy Halloween costume that isn’t one of the usual fairies or witches. The oversized horns, furry legs, earthy brown outfit and wild reddish hair make the whole thing feel like a character straight out of a fantasy world. You could recreate it with a brown corset-style top, faux-fur leg warmers, a little wrap skirt and a pair of dramatic horns. I love how much room there is to make this one your own too.
