How can I have fun while single?

how to have fun while you're single? Here are a few things to do while you're still single.

That’s the best part about this particular phase of your life.

You are free to do anything you want.

You don’t need to check in with anyone or set constraints on yourself. You are answerable to no one.

The best way to go about living your single life beautifully is to live it for you.

Learn to love yourself and learn to love spending time with yourself.

The longest relationship you will ever have is the one with yourself, so you might as well enjoy it!

Let’s begin!

35 exciting things to do while single

1. Stay single for 3-6 months

If you’ve just come out of a relationship or a painful breakup, take your time to heal.

Don’t start dating immediately to fill the empty void in your heart. It isn’t fair to yourself or to the next person you date.

You’ll feel highly vulnerable and not make very good decisions. And this will lead to further heartbreak.

So, take your time to learn things about yourself that you didn’t know before.

Make peace with your breakup and the relationship that is over. And once you’ve finished that, you can move on to dating.

2. Start your fitness journey

Start your health and fitness journey!

Getting in shape will not only boost your confidence but increase those endorphins resulting in a lot of happy hormones.

If you’re not interested in hitting the local gym, start small.

Start by taking a 5-minute walk, and increase that duration slowly as time goes by.

Do activities that you really enjoy like swimming, or dancing, kickboxing.

Break out of your comfort zone!

Take some time to understand what foods work with your body and leave you feeling bloated or sluggish.

Start taking an interest in fitness.

You will not only feel light and happy, but you’ll feel incredibly energized!

3. Learn what makes you tick

You’re never going to get this opportunity again.

So, while you’re single and have unlimited time to yourself, take the chance to learn more about yourself.

Ask yourself some critical questions like:

  • What are my core values?
  • What really makes me happy?
  • Where do I see myself 5 years from now?
  • What personal goals can I set for myself?

Knowing yourself will help you understand who you really are, and your life will become so much simpler because you’ll be able to easily make wise decisions for yourself.

4. Improve your social life

Improve your social life!

Your life may suddenly feel empty after a recent breakup.

It’s very typical, especially if you were close to your ex and your entire identity surrounded them.

For this purpose alone, it is important to go out and work on your social life:

  • Hang out with your friends in pubs or restaurants
  • Go out a for a coffee date with an old friend
  • Catch up with a colleague for lunch

You may not feel like hanging out with other people immediately, but try to go out every weekend and start mingling with people slowly.

Nurture those relationships with old friends that fizzled out while you were dating.

It will help you rebuild your life.

5. Join your local meetup group

If you’re starting afresh in a new city or don’t have friends around you, make some new ones.

Join your local meetup group app and see what local events are happening nearby that interest you.

Don’t sit at home alone.

Attempt to go out every weekend, at least.

I did this right after my breakup, and I ended up making many friends who I still meet every week or every other week for lunch or dinner.

And I can honestly say it was worth it!

6. Look at a nice view

Look out your window or balcony.

If you don’t have a view, go to your terrace and enjoy watching the sky from wherever you are.

Look at the stars, enjoy the fresh breeze, and let your mind wander.

This activity will give you so much peace.

Brownie points to you if you do this with a cup of your favorite hot beverage.

7. Learn something new and fun

If you’ve always wanted to pick up a specific skill or hobby, now is your chance!

Right after I became single, I got myself a keyboard and started learning the piano.

I have become quite serious about it now, and I am enjoying the process so much now!

Ask yourself what makes your heart sing, and do it.

Join a local class, or better yet, take online courses to learn what you want to.

I honestly love Domestika because their courses are so beautifully organized, and the resources they provide after every class is so helpful to help you learn better! Use STRAYCURLS-10 to get a 10% discount on any course you buy!

Get some art supplies and paint, pick up a musical instrument, learn to dance or sing, or go nuts writing poetry!

The possibilities are endless.

8. Learn a new language

Learning a new language is never a waste.

If you’ve been planning to travel somewhere, what better timing than now to pick up the local language?

Just get yourself the Duolingo app and start practicing now!

I’m currently learning French because one of my dreams is to go to France and pick up a couple of illustrated books!

9. Watch the sunrise and the sunset

Look at the view from your balcony or window.

It’s funny how we miss so many simple pleasures in life when we are in a relationship or are super engrossed in someone else.

But now is the time to enjoy what you’ve missed!

Take some time out of your day to watch the sunrise or sunset and feel your troubles melt away.

Doing this will help you realize how beautiful and impermanent life is.

10. Go to the bookstore

There is no greater joy than entering a bookstore and buying a good book.

I take some days out of the month to do this.

Think of it as a fun date with yourself.

Please pick up an interesting book and go to a nearby cafe to read it.

It’s a very relaxing experience!

11. Go to a spa

I had my first spa experience at the age of 29.

I’d never felt the need to get a body massage done, and I underestimated how relaxed and rejuvenated I would feel after one.

You feel your tension melting away, and it’s incredibly relaxing.

This is one of the perks of being single; you can pamper yourself as much as you want.

12. Declutter your home

Declutter your home and redecorate it!

I decluttered my home right after my breakup.

And it honestly felt so good to get rid of all the excess things that were piling up in my house that I clearly had no intention of using in the near future.

My house is so much airy and lighter now!

Go room by room and get rid of things that you know you’re never going to use. You can choose to:

  • Donate them
  • Sell them
  • Dump them straight in the trash

Either way, take your time to do this. The idea behind minimalism is to focus more on experiences rather than things.

It will help you become so much happier!

13. Redecorate your home

When you’re newly single, you look to change certain things to spice up your life.

What better way to do that than spicing up your home?

Rearrange the furniture, buy a few accent pieces to spice up your living room and bedroom, and get that tea set you always wanted.

Splurge a little and let your home bring out your inner you!

14. Go to the cinema alone

I have done this a lot, and I’ve never found it weird.

Going to the movies by yourself is so much fun! You can choose to go with your girlfriends too.

Is there a movie you’ve been waiting to see? Just book a ticket and go! Don’t think twice!

15. Attend a standup comedy show

I discovered this whole new world of stand-up comedy after my breakup.

Use your local app to find out what events are playing in your local avenues.

Keep your weekends full so that you’re not loitering around your house and moping over your past relationship.

16. Start cooking

Cook your own meals as this is the perfect form of self love!

Cooking and baking are very therapeutic.

Go on YouTube and watch some food recipe videos.

Cooking for yourself is a lovely way to show yourself some self-love.

I really look forward to getting groceries and then cooking or baking something for myself.

It’s gratifying and you won’t know until you’ve tried it for yourself!

17. Go for long walks

Walking will help clear your mind and is really good exercise for your body.

I love walking, and even if I do nothing all day, I make it a point to finish at least 10-15K daily.

You can take your pets for a long walk too. Or don on some headphones and listen to your favorite tunes while you take a stroll in your neighborhood.

18. Go to a pub by yourself

I carried a book, and I read it while enjoying a few cocktails.

Just enjoy a few starters and a few drinks and relax.

Make sure you’re not driving so that you can hail a cab and come home safely.

19. Treat yourself to an expensive meal

You can do this while enjoying a nice dinner at home in front of the television or actually going to a nice restaurant and enjoying it there.

The choice is entirely yours.

There are no rules!

I do this once or twice a week, and it helps me relax and feel loved.

20. Write a letter to your future self

I write a letter to myself every month.

Your words are compelling, and they can heal you.

This is a chance for you to be honest with yourself and talk to yourself about how you feel regarding everything in your life.

It may seem silly, but once you get started, you’ll realize how therapeutic it actually is.

It’s somewhat similar to journaling, but writing letters to yourself helps you self-introspect and heal much faster. I highly recommend it to you if you’re going through some emotional pain.

21. Travel

Travel abroad and take a vacation.

Take a mini-vacation by yourself.

If you’re strapped for cash, take a holiday somewhere in the country. You don’t need to go to the other side of the world to rediscover yourself.

There are so many budget-friendly vacation ideas you can look into.

Do this for yourself.

Taking a holiday will not only relax you but reset your mind and give you that much-needed clarity you need to get back to life!

22. Throw a party

Throwing your closest friends a nice house party is a perfect way to have fun!

Get down and dirty with the planning. Go nuts organizing the food, the music, and the theme of the party.

Permit yourself to have fun!

There is something to planning an event that takes your mind off of everything else!

23. Stop looking

If you’re constantly seeking a partner and looking for love, it can get frustrating when you keep meeting the wrong people.

So, take a break from looking and enjoy the moment.

Enjoy where you are right now and take a breather.

It’s okay to take a break.

The person you are destined to meet will eventually run into you, and the wait will have been worth it.

24. Watch whatever you want

You have the house all to yourself.

And you can watch any movie or TV series your heart desires.

The remote is all yours now! So, take full liberty in watching that movie that you’ve been saving for ages!

25. Try some new food

Try new food

When you’re in a relationship, it is normal to compromise and eat food that your partner is comfortable with.

Now that you are single, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from gorging on what you love.

So, if you’ve been avoiding sushi because your partner didn’t like it, go nuts now!

Binge on food that you’ve been waiting to have for so long!

26. Go to the beach

There is something about walking on the sand and just looking at the endless sea that is so relaxing.

Take a trip to the beach.

Carry a little picnic basket and a fun book, and have yourself a lovely day.

27. Go shopping!

You’re no longer spending for two!

It’s just you now.

So, take your earnings and splurge a little.

Buy some nice clothes for yourself, get a nice, fancy pair of shoes, and buy that action figure you’ve always wanted.

Redo a bit of your wardrobe; you deserve it!

If you are a minimalist, get consumables.

I splurge on things like matcha tea or try a new brand of vegan milk.

28. Get yourself a nice haircut

I absolutely loved changing my hair after a breakup.

It felt so rewarding to sit in that chair and snip away at my hair!

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, color your hair! Get something fun and cute!

Go wild!

And it’s okay to do this because hair always grows back.

29. Be kinder

I am grateful for my breakup because I discovered a whole new world after it.

I became empathetic to the people around me, and it helped me become more outgoing and kind.

Start conversations with people around you. Ask them how they’re doing and how you can help them!

It will make their day, and it will help you have a good day as well!

30. Foster a pet

Foster a pet

If you’ve always been wanting to keep a pet, now is your chance to get a taste of what it will be like to live with a furry friend.

Before adopting a pet, foster one.

It will help you understand the responsibilities of taking care of a pet and give you time to get used to one as well!

A pet is full of love, and it will open your heart in ways you never even knew.

31. Learn to dance

This is one of the best things to do while you’re single.

Dancing will bring you so much joy, and it’s such a fun way to exercise.

You can dance while watching youtube videos or take an actual dance class and have fun meeting new people!

Dancing will also get rid of that excess energy build-up and make you feel happier!

32. Start a scrapbook!

This new phase of your life is a beginning.

And you should treasure it because it’s a beautiful opportunity for you to rediscover your life.

I started enjoying my life after my breakup. I practice gratitude, and I make sure to take a photo every time I go out or do something memorable as a way of remembering and treasuring that moment.

You can print out your photos once every quarter and collect them in an album or scrapbook to mark your new life!

33. Pursue your studies

Were you planning on venturing out to pursue your higher education but never got the chance to?

Now is your opportune moment; grab it!

Do your research and check out a few courses that you’ve set your heart on and go ahead and study!

Make your dreams a reality! Nothing is stopping you from doing that!

34. Go to a concert

This is still on my bucket list, but I know many single people who have gone to concerts alone and had a blast!

Take some time off to check out when your favorite singer or band will be in town and go see them!

It will make you feel alive and be a unique experience.

35. Go on dates

Once you’ve completely healed and you’re able to completely let go of the past, you can definitely start dating again!

Dating and getting to know someone is a lot of fun!

Take some time to learn what you want from your relationship and a partner before you start dating.

Let go of unfulfilling relationships so that you can make room for better ones.

But all in all, know that love is around the corner, and one day you will find the right person.

You have to be a little patient while waiting for love.

Conclusion

I hope this post helped give you lots of ideas of things to do while you’re single.
